Gentlemen, thanks for your thoughts.
Actually, this is not a dealership but a performance shop, which seems to be held in fairly high regard by people around here. I took it there because the dealership where I bought the bike is known for spotty service.
Anyway, I let the bike sit for about an hour after posting my complaint here. I tried one more time to start it, it fired up, and I rode home. This morning it not only starts but doesn't sound too bad. (It's only 73 degrees in Birmingham right now. It was in excess of 95 when I was having the problem last night.) I'll take the long way to work (like maybe 10 miles of detours to travel the 4 miles to work) and I packed a spark plug wrench and a nail file (good for scraping carbon deposits)..
Do you have any thoughts specifically about the choke issue? How long do you leave the choke on when you warm up your Savages? Does it sound likely that leaving the choke on too long could foul the spark plug? I am still trying to sort out whether these problems are my fault and, if so, how not to do it again.
With respect to the exhaust, my thought had been that there was a problem with the installation of the seal. Actually the reason I brought it in for service in the first place was as a result of problems with the exhaust. The bolts had worked loose and the seal needed to be replaced. I wanted them to just install a Supertrapp. They advised me to wait until Fall when their manufacturer has made a carb rejet kit specifically for the Savage.
I was upset with these guys at the shop after the first problem, but am concerned that the present problem may be operator incompetence. (I was more p.o.'d at the bike, my luck, and the fact that I was sitting on a curb in the blazing sun when I should have been out riding.) I don't know a lot about motorcycles yet. I'm gonna learn. I have the Suzuki manual and the Clymer manual is on order from Chaparal.
